Your Denture Needs

dentures

Partial or full dentures can be a better, more cost-effective way or replacing missing teeth, or teeth that are unable to be restored. Partial dentures are often recommended over a complete set, as they have greater stability, and the presence of natural teeth still in the mouth helps to maintain bone levels, avoiding having a sunken-in look in the future.

During your initial consultation appointment, your dentist will discuss your options in more detail and make some recommendations that would best suit you. Making a denture can take up to five weeks, with about a week between appointments.

Acrylic-Based Dentures

This type of denture is made from a plastic-like material that is coloured to blend in with your gums. They are generally the more cost-effective option, and are recommended for those who anticipate needing more teeth removed in the future.

They are easy to modify and add extra teeth to acrylic dentures. They are lightweight and easier to repair, but one the other hand they are also weaker than other types and can fracture easily.

Chrome Dentures

Chrome dentures are a metal-based denture. While they are a more expensive option than acrylic dentures, they are also stronger  and have better stability. They can be more obvious in the mouth, but because they are thinner and smaller than acrylics, they are much more comfortable.

Denture care

Dentures need to be cleaned as often as you would clean your own natural teeth in order to prevent inflamed gums and bacterial or fungal infections. When cleaning your dentures, make sure to take them out of your mouth and clean your gums as well. It is also recommended that you take your dentures out at night to give your gums a chance to rest.

Dentures vs Natural Teeth

In many cases, it is necessary to to have a denture made to fill in gaps in your smile and to increase the functionality of your molars. However, if you have the option to keep your own teeth we highly recommend doing so. Dentures are never as good as your own teeth, as they cannot match the retention and stability of natural teeth. They can also be very uncomfortable to begin with.

Book an appointment with a dentist at Plainland Dental and we can help you pick out the right denture for your needs, and give you the confidence to smile again.
