Emergency Appointments

We know as well as anyone that tooth pain can horribly debilitating. For this reason,we keep aside a number of emergency appointments for our patients every day. Our friendly staff will do everything in their power to accomodate you and treat your discomfort as soon as possible.

Knocked out tooth

If it is a baby (deciduous) tooth, then there is no need to try and put the tooth back in the socket - this may damage emerging adult teeth.

If it is a permanent tooth with the root intact, then lightly wash the tooth in water or milk to remove any visible dirt and then replace the tooth back in the socket as soon as possible. It is important that you do not touch the root at all. As soon as the tooth is washed and replaced, take it to your dentist straight away to give the tooth the best chance of survival.

If it is not possible to replace the tooth back into the socket, then place the cleaned tooth in a container of milk and take it to your dentist immediately. Do not place the tooth in water as it may damage the root surface of the tooth.

If you are suffering from toothache, the best thing to do is take painkillers and arrange to see your dentist as soon as is practical. Often a toothache that wakes you up during the night is a tooth that may require extraction or root canal treatment.
Sometimes antibiotics may even be required for infection.

For a knocked out tooth, toothache or any other dental emergency, call our surgery immediately, and we will do what we can for you!
