Dental Check Up and Clean

A dental check-up and clean, in combination with brushing and flossing, is the best way to maintain your oral health. Regular visits with your dentist can prevent major issues from occurring, saving you time and money in the long run.

We advise that you see your dentist every six months for a check-up and clean. The appointments generally take 30 to 40 minutes for regular patients.

Dental Check-Up

A dental check-up covers much more than simply looking at your teeth! During a check-up, your dentist will talk with you about any concerns you have, perform a dietary and hygiene assessment and do a thorough examination of your jaw, gums, tongue, throat, face and neck. They’ll then examine your teeth for signs of infection, cavities, cracks or excessive plaque build-up.

At Plainland Dental, we believe that education is power, and we want you to have a thorough understanding of your oral health and control of your treatment. If dental work is required, your dentist will go over the treatment in detail and explain why it’s required.

They will also create dental plans with your input to address areas that need treatment. This allows them to tailor dental work to your timeframe and budget. If more work is required, another appointment may be required.

New Patients

For new patients, we thoroughly address any concerns you may have and take an in-depth look at your mouth and oral health. If there isn’t enough time in the appointment to dedicate to a scale and clean, we’ll book it in as part of a future appointment.

Dental X-Rays

X-rays may be required as part of a comprehensive overview of your mouth. X-rays give us a better look at your teeth and pick up signs of decay or infection not visible to the naked eye. We want to find these areas before they are big enough to see with the naked eye! With x-rays on file, we can also compare and track any changes in your mouth.

Dental Clean

A scale and polish will remove stains, plaque build-up and tartar. This is achieved with special ultrasonic tools and a gentle abrasive polishing paste. It’s a lot more effective than when you brush your teeth at home.

New plaque finds it difficult to adhere to the smooth and shiny surface of your freshly polished teeth. If you have a heavier build-up, or periodontal disease (gum disease), more than one treatment may be required.

Fluoride Treatment

The last stage of your treatment involves the application of fluoride, which strengthens the enamel. Please wait 20 minutes after your fluoride treatment before you eat or drink.
